iPhone Duo goes on sale next Friday. Fuel Finder UK is ready for the bigger screen.

Apple's first folding iPhone arrives on 23 October, and reports say interest is huge. Fuel Finder UK has been ready since version 44: open the Duo up and you get the station list and the live price map side by side, on a screen of 7.6 inches.

The short version: iPhone Duo pre-orders opened on Friday 16 October and it goes on sale on Friday 23 October. Version 44 of Fuel Finder UK, out on the App Store since 16 October, is made for it. Unfolded, you see the list and the map together and tap a station to see its prices beside the list. Folded, the app still works on the outer screen. All of the screenshots below are real captures from Apple's iPhone Duo simulator.

What is happening with iPhone Duo

Unfolded: the list and the map, together

This is the big change. On a normal phone you pick a station from a list, then jump to the map to see where it is, then back again. On the Duo's inner screen you do not have to jump. The list is on the left and the live map is on the right.

Look at the price range bar along the bottom of the map. In this capture it runs from 166.9p to 178.9p, a spread of 12.0p a litre between the cheapest and the dearest in view. On a 55-litre fill that is £6.60. It is much easier to see that gap when the whole area is on screen at once.

Tap a station and keep your place

Tap any station and its full details open beside the list. You see the live prices, the address and how far away it is, and the list stays where you left it. Tap Back to Map to go back to the map.

Folded: still a proper app

Close the Duo and the app carries on on the outer screen. You get the station list, cheapest first, and a tap opens the full details for a station. Nothing is missing, it is just a smaller window.

The app adjusts as you fold it, unfold it or turn it sideways, so you do not need to close it and start again.
