Where diesel stands today
The average diesel price in our data is 200.0p a litre on Friday 2 October 2026, across 8,416 forecourts in the official CMA scheme. A 55-litre fill at that price costs £110.00.
The RAC put the average at 200.01p this morning and said it is the first time diesel has averaged £2 (RAC). The peak in June 2022 was 199.09p. The RAC says diesel is up 57.6p a litre since 28 February, when the conflict involving Iran began to disrupt oil shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Petrol is 174.8p. Only 6 forecourts in the country charge £2 or more for petrol.
The 199.9p wall
An average hides the pattern. The single most common diesel price in the UK today is 199.9p. Three in ten forecourts charge exactly that, a tenth of a penny under £2.

What to do about it
- £2 is an average, not a floor. 2,873 forecourts, about a third, are under 199p.
- Try the supermarkets first. Three of the big four have nothing above 199.9p today.
- Friday's price tends to stick. Few forecourts change prices at the weekend, so what you see tonight is likely what you pay on Sunday. Read which days forecourts change their prices.
- If a pump is empty or the queue is long, say so. Read how to report it in the app.
- Find the forecourts still under £2. Every station near you, cheapest first, on a list or a map.
- Check the supermarkets first. Filter by brand in one tap.
- Know the cost of a fill. Add your car and see what a full tank costs at each station.

How we counted
We took the official CMA fuel price data as it stood at 2:51pm on Friday 2 October 2026. It lists 8,574 forecourts, and 8,416 of them have a standard diesel (B7) price between 100p and 300p. Prices outside that range are almost always typing errors, so we left them out.
A forecourt counts as over £2 when its diesel price is 200.0p or more. Nation, region and county come from the forecourt's postcode.
The limits: each price is the last one the retailer reported. 67% of these diesel prices changed in the last 7 days and 93% in the last 14. This is one moment on one day, and prices are still moving. The UK average page is updated daily.
